NGA speaks at the Trans Healthcare Conference in Bristol

April 3, 2019
The team at NGA Law were delighted to be part of the Trans Healthcare Conference in Bristol, organised by Policy Bristol, the Trans Equality Legal Initiative and Mermaids. We were invited to be a speaker on the legal panel, about UK family law for trans adults and children, including trans fertility and birth registration and our experience of children cases heard in the family court involving trans parents and children. We were joined on the panel by other leading practising and academic lawyers working in civil liberties for trans prisoners and children’s rights.

The conference was a one day interdisciplinary conference, and other sessions covered trans children’s access to medical pathways with input from the UK’s Tavistock Clinic and Professor Johanna Olson-Kennedy who provided a window on the US experience, practical issues facing trans adults accessing healthcare, and breakout sessions covering diverse topics including recent research on trans ageing and care, an initiative providing training to health care providers and soon-to-be-published research on trans male pregnancy.

Thank you to Bristol University, TELI and Mermaids for inviting us to such an amazing and thought-provoking day.

Donor-conceived people born following the 2005 law change, who have the legal right to find out the identity of their donor once they are adults, have now begun to reach the age of 18 from around November 2023.
