New academic book – Future Directions in Surrogacy Law

Natalie is delighted to have contributed a chapter for a soon-to-be published book by Bristol University Press, Future Directions in Surrogacy Law. Natalie’s chapter, ‘Why UK parents go overseas: the challenges, and what it means for UK law reform’ focuses on international surrogacy, and expands on a talk she gave at a multi-disciplinary conference on surrogacy in London in 2022.  Natalie shares our team’s long experience of working with UK parents going abroad surrogacy, the current problems experienced by children, and how we believe law reform should make things better.

The chapter considers:

Why are intended parents engaging in international surrogacy?

Where are intended parents going for surrogacy?

Difficulties in relation to legal parentage and whether they can be resolved at an international level

The Law Commissions’ recommendations for international surrogacy – and the law reform we actually need

Future Directions in Surrogacy Law is edited by Professor Kirsty Horsey, Dr Zaina Mahmood and Dr Katherine Wade and can be purchased at Bristol University Press | Future Directions in Surrogacy Law – Law and Policy Reform in the UK and Beyond, Edited by Kirsty Horsey, Zaina Mahmoud and Katherine Wade
