This Trans Awareness Week we are raising awareness about legal issues faced by our trans and non-binary clients

NGA Law and Brilliant Beginnings have always been prominent supporters of LGBT+ inclusion, with a long history of campaigning for LGBT+ rights.  We support reform of the Gender Recognition Act 2004 to facilitate self-ID, and are campaigning to enable trans people to be recorded on their children’s birth certificates using their preferred parental title.

We also help our clients navigate through the existing law to make the process of changing gender identity, having a family or resolving disputes as smooth as possible. Everyone should have the choice about who they disclose intimate details of their personal life to, and accurate legal documents (including birth certificates and passports) can be vital in avoiding transphobia and harassment, as well as being a source of validation and inclusion for both adults and children.

Luke Williams is a solicitor and a member of our team here at NGA Law. Delighted to be the first ever trans man to be the Chair of the Law Society’s LGBT+ Lawyers Division, he will be leading our work raising awareness this week, posting all week on our social media with links to information about:

  • how to change your legal gender,
  • creating a family as a trans parent,
  • managing family disputes involving trans parents or trans children, and
  • where law reform is needed to support trans and non-binary people better.

If you would like more information about how we can help with legal advice and representation, you can find out more about our services here.
